Working out is all about self-discipline and willpower

Sunday, April 24, 2011, The Times of India

My fitness routine
I try to get in a small jog before meetings, especially when I am away on business. And it is certainly difficult when I am on the road. But in Ahmedabad I am a part of an informal running and biking club and we organize jogging or cycling from Law Garden at least three to four times a week. Jogging is also a way for me to relax. It keeps me on top of things.

We take several health conditions for granted and often consider something like blood pressure or diabetes to be a normal thing. This is truly alarming to me. Exercise can, in fact, be a solution for so many problems.

My de-stressing mantra
Exercise is a real stress buster for me, and can be for others as well, because working out releases endorphins which keep you happy and healthy. Even if I have been busy for a few days, I employ my weekends to get back in form and clear my mind by walking and keeping active.

My health regime
I am a big fan of good food, and I find that one can indulge in moderation, as long as one is not sedentary. I actively try to stick to eating only salads and reducing my sugar intake. Though occasionally I do indulge, I would advise that one must find a balance between having a treat and keeping in shape.

My inspiration
Mahatma Gandhi, at his age, was able to complete the Dandi march that is equivalent to nine back-to-back marathons. Working out is all about self discipline and willpower, and it is not only a test of how far one can push the body, but also how resilient and tough the mind can be.

The Motif Charity Walk
My primary focus in organizing the Motif Charity Walk was to spread awareness about the benefits of regular exercise, along with raising funds for a worthy cause.
